VoLTE and RCS: Bringing IP Communications to 4G Networks

Play Video

Doug Makishima D2 Technologies LTE is an "all-IP" based network. That provides challenges for circuit-switched services such as SMS or voice. The desired way forward is to use the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) over voice (and SMS) over IMS, better know as Voice over LTE, or VoLTE. Another aspect is the Rich Communication Suite (RCS). Doug Makashima, CTO of D2 Technologies addresses this topic in his keynote speech.

LTE Release 8 device certification – GCF, PTCRB, network operator specific tests and all that

Play Video

Amol There Cetecom LTE device certification ensures minimum compliance to all relevant technical specifications issued by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). In addition, network operators have created their own test plans to carry out further testing. This presentation by Amol There of Cetecom sheds some light on these issues.

Challenges during LTE deployment and network optimization

Play Video

Michael Schwab P3 Communications Many of the current globally deployed LTE networks are using the spectrum previously used by other systems, especially in the lower frequency bands of 700 and 800 MHz. This puts some challenges on spectrum clearing, network deployment and optimization, and occasionally interference hunting. Michael Schwab shares P3 Communications’ experience in this sector in this presentation at the 2012 Rohde & Schwarz North American LTE Forum.

Audio and video testing on LTE devices

Play Video

Tony Opferman & Greg Kregoski Rohde & Schwarz Network operators have migrated to next generation mobile networks based on the LTE (E-UTRAN) standard, including Evolved Packet Core (EPC). As LTE is an "all-IP" based architecture, these networks were designed for mobile broadband data transmission. Now the industry is demanding circuit-switched services such as SMS or voice and video over LTE, including those based on the integrated IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). High quality mobile video transmission and the delivery of SMS and high quality voice should to be thoroughly verified during the design and development process of end user devices, such as smartphones or tablets. This presentation highlights the key challenges for providing these services as well as efficient test strategies.

LTE Positioning Methods

Play Video

Armin Damman DLR One key feature for LTE in 3GPP Release 9 is the support of different positioning methods besides A-GNSS. Key words are Observed Time Difference of Arrival (OTDOA), Enhanced Cell ID (E-CID) and Angle of Arrival (AoA). This presentation by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) introduces this topic to the attendees of the 2012 North American LTE Forum.

An introduction to heterogeneous networks and smart offloading: How Wi-Fi can support LTE?

Play Video

Adrian Schumacher Rohde & Schwarz Smart traffic offloading (from/to LTE to/from WiFi) is an intensively discussed topic these days. Not only by network operators, but also chipset and handset manufacturers and infrastructure suppliers. This Rohde & Schwarz talk provides technical insight into this 2012 buzzword.
